THE GOOD SHEPHERD

December 5, 2023 By Fred Balke Leave a Comment

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT GOOD SHEPHERD THIS WEEK

Wed.  12/6     –   Midweek Advent Service at 4 pm

Sun.   12/10   –   Third Sunday in Advent Service at 10:30 am

                           Fellowship following the service

MIDWEEK  ADVENT SERVICE

THEME:  “A Conversation With Isaiah”

This Wednesday we light the second candle on our advent wreath, the candle of peace. We may be afraid at times, because we live in a world filled with violence. We may be caught up in personal struggles and family quarrels. We need that peace that only Jesus can bring. The Old Testament prophet Isaiah who will be our guest this Wednesday,  foretold the coming of the promised Messiah, the child who would be called the Prince of Peace. Jesus was born to bring us peace, the peace that comes through the forgiveness of our sins, peace that the world can never give, peace that Jesus alone can bring us. We pray that you will be with us this Wednesday.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ADVENT SERVICE

THEME:  “The Light of Grace is Joy”

This coming Sunday we will light the third candle on our Advent wreath, the pink candle, all the rest are blue. The pink candle signifies “joy” and “happiness”. Christmas is truly one of the most joy-filled times of the year, but not the only time. I suggest another joy-filled time is at the birth of a child. This coming Sunday we will talk about not one birth but two births. Mary’s child, the birth of her son, Jesus, The Messiah, and Elizabeth’s child, the birth of her child, John, the Baptist. This coming we will share their joy and happiness and make it our own. Please, come and join us for a Sunday filled with joy and happiness.
